CWW Rehearsal for Rattlesnake Sprint & Olympic at Aurora Reservoir

Information about Sunday, July 13,  CWW Rattlesnake Olympic/Sprint Triathlon or Duathlon Rehearsal - starts at 7:00 AM Sharp!

Location:  Aurora Reservoir, Aurora (directions)

Aurora Reservoir is located at 5800 S. Powhaton Road, Aurora, CO 80016 

 

Toll Road Directions:  Take I-25 or C470 to E470 and exit at Quincy Avenue , Exit #13. Go right (east) on Quincy Road for approximately 2 miles.  Turn right on Powhaton Road (entrance road to Aurora Reservoir).

 

Non-Toll Road Directions:   Take I-25 North to I-225 North and Exit Parker Road and go South, Turn left at Quincy and head east to the entrance of the Aurora Reservoir - go right on Powhaton Road. 

 

Parking:  Let the gate attendant know that you are here for the CWW rehearsal.  They will give you a parking pass to put on your window.  You will drive straight and take a right to the upper parking lot.  There should be a sign posted to direct you to the parking lot.

Rehearsal Start:  

Wave # 1 - 7:00AM Sharp Olympic Distance Athletes

Wave # 2 - 7:10 AM - Sprint Distance athletes

Wave # 3 – Those beginners wanting to swim the course with kayakers - will start right after

 

DUATHLON will start with the 3rd wave of the triathlon, 7:12 AM or so – please be by the swim beach to start.

CHECK IN:

 

Opens at 5:45AM and closes at 6:50AM. 

You must be out of the transition by 6:55 AM

Please give yourself PLENTY OF TIME - depending on how much time you need.

Once you arrive:

·         You will be asked your name and you will be body marked on your arm with your bib number

·         You MUST check in by name or bib number

·         You MUST have a bike helmet!  If you do not, you can do the swim and/or run portion

·         NO headphones, iPods, etc. on the bike or run portion.  This is for everyone’s safety and is a USAT rule

·         You will pick up your rehearsal number (bib number) and your swim cap.

·         You will need to rack your bike and set up your transition

·         Check out the course

·         Check your bike to make sure everything is working properly

·         Pee (the bathrooms will be open)

·         Relax, stretch, warm up…smile

COURSE DESCRIPTION 

TRIATHLON (1 LOOP FOR SPRINT – 2 LOOPS FOR OLYMPIC)

Swim - The swim course is 800 yards; we will have plenty of kayakers and there will be patrol boats. (Olympic distance athletes will do 2 LOOPS (you will come out and back again)

Bike – Stay on the right shoulder of the road.  Traffic on the course will not be closed.  Be aware of fellow cyclists and pay attention.  Olympic distance athletes will do 2 LOOPS

Go out of the transition area, then:

·         Left onto Powhaton Road

·         Right onto Quincy

·         Turn around at the top of the hill on Quincy past Watkins Road until you see a volunteer at the turnaround point

·         Back down Quincy

·         Left onto Powhaton Road back to the reservoir

Run-walk session - This is an out and back course. You will run from the transition area out 1.5 miles (water and Gatorade will be provided).  The turn around will be marked.  Olympic distance athletes will do 2 LOOPS of the 3 MILE COURSE

DUATHLON   

1st run-walk - We will start at the beach area to the bike path.  You will follow the road past the large shelter, up the road and you will turn around 1/2 mile out.

Bike and 2nd run course is the same as the triathlon. 1 Loop for Sprint and 2 Loops for Olympic.

POST REHEARSAL ACTIVITIES

We will have snacks after the rehearsal and of course lots of cheering and smiles
